The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is an intergovernmental organisation working to strengthen national capacity and regional solidarity so Pacific island countries can manage, control, and develop their valuable tuna fisheries now and into the future.

Based in Honiara, Solomon Islands, FFA's 17 member nations are Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

About the Opportunity

FFA now has a rare opportunity for a Director to head up their Corporate Services division. This is a full-time role based in Honiara, in the Solomon Islands. This appointment is made on a three-year term and may be renewable at this time for up to an additional three years.

Reporting to the Director-General through the Deputy Director-General, this is an executive leadership position providing strategic direction and advice to Executive and other FFA staff in relation to all aspects of corporate governance and management. You will be overseeing the management of:

  • Human Resources Functions and policies, including FFA's gender policy;
  • Financial management;
  • Administration, property, facilities and contracts; and
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and Performance Management system implementation.

An important component of this position is to provide oversight and support to the implementation and management of donor-funded projects being implemented by the Agency in support of its Member countries, including projects financed by the EU, the Global Environment Facility and the World Bank.

About You

To be considered for this position you will have tertiary qualifications in Management, Public Administration, Finance, or related field and significant progressive experience in the area of corporate services, with at least 5 years' experience as a manager.

You will have a demonstrated background in Human Resources Management, using HR systems, and in Accounts Management, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly financial reporting and audit compliance. Project management experience would be a distinct advantage.

Experience working in the Pacific region and/or within an Intergovernmental Organisation (IGO) or similar public institutions will also be an advantage.

A proven ability to communicate and collaborate with a range of multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural stakeholders will be key in this role, including the ability to effectively provide clear information or knowledge to non-technical audiences. You will be an innovative and influential leader who can provide high-level strategic direction to the organisation; promote positive change and reform within the Agency; advocate for the Agency; and negotiate effectively with donors, as well as effectively represent the organisation in meetings of FFA’s governing body – the Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC), and with individual FFA member delegations.

Please Note: Previous experience living and/or working within a remote or international location, particularly in the Pacific region, will be highly beneficial.

About the Benefits

The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is offering the successful candidate a competitive salary at SDR$70,395 equivalent to US$97,237 and with allowances (COLDA, Location and Superannuation) bringing the annual salary to US$141,031 TAX-FREE for citizens of most countries.

You will also have superannuation paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or as an additional cash supplement. FFA reimburses all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and dependents. Insurance coverage is also provided for personal accident, life, medical & repatriation.

Education for dependent children will be reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (Conditions apply). If your dependent child is educated overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year. 

Accommodation assistance is also available.

Additionally, relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara.  Annual airfares back to your country of repatriation will be provided, and a repatriation allowance of 2 weeks’ base salary on return to home-base at the end of your contract. There is also a retention incentive of 21% of your base salary which will be paid on the completion of your three-year contract.

On top of all this, you will have access to 6 weeks of annual leave each year, giving you plenty of time to explore this stunning part of the world!
